"One ought, every day at least, to hear a little song, read a good poem, see a fine picture, and if it were possible, to speak a few reasonable words." Goethe

The Old Cooper River Bridge, Charleston, SC

I painted this for my brother, Shawn.  The bridge is gone now, but we all remember as children riding over that bridge and being scared that at any minute, the bridge would crumble under us and we would be plunged into the river.  The new bridge offers no test of one's bravery in making it to the other side.

Boring

I just could not enter the Songbird painting into the Dave Bown contest--even just to see what happened.  It was too boring.  I decided to just play with it and see what would make it less boring.  Here is want happened.  By the way, nothing I sent in got selected.  I don't feel bad, however, because I do not understand why many of the works that were selected made it. This is not sour grapes.  I have learned that art selection is extremely subjective, and there is no way to understand the criteria because it changes from judge to judge.  It is freeing to know that.
